Liing Heaney
Liing Heaney is a multidisciplinary artist based in Leixlip, Co. Kildare exploring the complex entanglements of the anthropocene, particularly between technology and ecology. She is currently a Masters by Research candidate in IADT, funded by Elevate. Working across diverse mediums such as 3D print, Extended Reality, stone, CGI, steel, and screen, her work is presented as immersive, sculptural, and screened experiences.
As part of Liing’s arts practice-led research at IADT, she is exploring the potential of digital technologies, including Mixed Reality, Augmented Reality, and interactive digital artworks to tell ecologically grounded, site-specific stories highlighting our entangled relationship with the natural world. Currently, Liing is focusing on the bogs of Kildare as novel ecology sites, studying the impact of human activity on the landscape, and investigating their contemporary significance as areas of biodiversity conservation. This early research is developing through fieldwork, theoretical reading, smartphone video, 3D scans, film photography, and Google Earth screenshots.
Liing’s previous work has been exhibited widely, with solo shows including ‘world without end’ (Mermaid Arts Centre, Wicklow, 2023) and ‘Hyper-’ (Pallas Projects, 2019). She has taken part in residencies such as ‘The SPACE Programme’ in Centre Cultural Irlandais with the Performance Corporation, the ‘VECTOR Digital Arts Residency’, funded by the Kildare Arts Office, and the ‘League of Stars’ in Greece. She is also visiting artist-in-residence in the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely, Co. Wicklow.
Liing graduated from the NCAD with a BA in Fine Art Media and Visual Culture in 2015. She also holds a Certificate in Animation from Pulse College, and returned to NCAD where she received a Professional Diploma in Art & Ecology in 2025.
The TU RISE IADT Elevate Programme hosted an XR Design Sprint bringing together enterprises and creative practitioners to explore real-world applications of immersive technologies through collaborative, hands-on innovation. Over five days, participants developed early-stage concepts across education, culture and creative industries, supported by design thinking and industry expertise.
The TU RISE Elevate team was delighted to attend Amplify 2026, hosted by the IRDG Innovation Network, where Aisling Cox and Dorota Zurek gained valuable insights into innovation, R&D and collaboration. Thank you to the IRDG team for delivering such an inspiring event.
We were delighted to take part in the IADT Summer School on Research & Social Justice, which brought together researchers, educators and community partners to explore the role of research in creating positive social impact. Thank you to everyone who contributed to such an inspiring and engaging event.
