Safe Motion Project Advances Innovation in Motion Capture at IADT
As part of the TU RISE ELEVATE Programme, IADT Dún Laoghaire’s Julian King recently partnered with Dublin-based creative development and production company Cassette Vision through an Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher. The partnership delivered Safe Motion – an innovation collaboration supporting the company’s expansion into motion capture VFX.
Utilising the Motion Capture facilities in IADT’s state of the art Immersive Studio, Safe Motion developed applied research insights around health and safety in motion capture data workflows. These insights were also applied to new innovations in physical performance and stunt practice. Industry expertise from stunt coordinator and performer Philip Condron ensured the work was grounded in real-world production environments and that it was fully responsive to evolving industry needs.
Safe Motion reflects the TU RISE ELEVATE Programme’s commitment to strengthening meaningful academic-industry collaboration, and supporting innovation and skills development across Ireland’s screen and immersive sectors. Through initiatives like this, Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology continues to connect academic expertise with industry challenges – helping enterprises test ideas, build capability, and progress toward new and safer production practices.
The TU RISE IADT Elevate Programme hosted an XR Design Sprint bringing together enterprises and creative practitioners to explore real-world applications of immersive technologies through collaborative, hands-on innovation. Over five days, participants developed early-stage concepts across education, culture and creative industries, supported by design thinking and industry expertise.
The TU RISE Elevate team was delighted to attend Amplify 2026, hosted by the IRDG Innovation Network, where Aisling Cox and Dorota Zurek gained valuable insights into innovation, R&D and collaboration. Thank you to the IRDG team for delivering such an inspiring event.
