Dr Judith Pernin
Dr Judith Pernin is a researcher with a background in Chinese Studies and Film Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in History and Civilization from the School of Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS, Paris), with a thesis on Chinese independent documentary film practices (1990-2010). Based in Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan for over a decade, she wrote extensively on protests, documentary cinema and visual culture. In Ireland, she took part in several EU projects (WIRE, Crescine) and conducts research on screen policies and the Irish film industry, particularly the creative documentary film sector.
PhD candidate Eilís N. explores loneliness, isolation and our growing dependence on digital spaces in a newly published article examining Bo Burnham’s *Inside* (2021), featured in the *Irish Screen Studies Journal* special issue, *Cinema and Loneliness*.

The TU RISE IADT Elevate Programme hosted an XR Design Sprint bringing together enterprises and creative practitioners to explore real-world applications of immersive technologies through collaborative, hands-on innovation. Over five days, participants developed early-stage concepts across education, culture and creative industries, supported by design thinking and industry expertise.
