AI-AD, Audio Descriptors Automation Technology

AI-AD is an AI-powered audio description tool developed by IADT academic Kieran Lynch to help content producers comply with the European Accessibility Act’s requirements for accessible media by June 2025. The software streamlines and enhances audio description creation for screen content.

Backed by a €15,000 Enterprise Ireland Feasibility Study grant, the project engaged with industry leaders including RTÉ, Channel 4, Droga5 and Red Bee Media. This enabled refinement of the technology based on real-world challenges and needs and the identification of additional features which would maximise its benefit to industry. AI-AD is now advancing towards Enterprise Ireland Proof of Concept funding.

Impact: AI-AD directly addresses accessibility requirements in the audiovisual industry, supporting content creators and improving media experiences for visually impaired audiences.
